The New York Mets were looking to get back on the winning track tonight as they took on the St. Louis Cardinals.
For the Mets they were coming off a very tough loss to the Cardinals where they fell a run short of winning the game.
Matt Harvey started for the Mets looking to get his fourth win of the season. Harvey would struggle in the second inning allowing three runs to score. Harvey wouldn’t get any run support and would lose this game. Lasting just five innings, Harvey allowed three runs six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. This was a very tough outing for Harvey who has had success since his call-up. Tonight he wasn’t able to control the strike zone enough to go longer in this game.
The only run for the Mets came from Mike Baxter who hit a sacrifice fly that scored Justin Turner. The offense continues to have it’s ups and downs and tonight the offense really was disappointing.
Jeurys Familia made his major league debut for the Mets today pitching a very nice inning. Familia struck out the first batter he faced in Lance Berkman. After that he allowed a single and then induced a inning ending double play. Familia at one point had his fastball up to 98 mph which had excellent movement.
The Mets lost tonight and a loss tomorrow would give them a three game losing streak. Tonight was tough, but tomorrow they should come out looking to avoid the sweep.
