The New York Mets were looking to snap a two game losing streak against the Cardinals today.
R.A. Dickey pitched for the Mets today looking to improve to 18 wins this season. Dickey would pitch a very nice game as he tossed 6.2 innings allowing two runs on eight hits. Dickey continued to make the case of winning the Cy Young award. His pitching was solid today despite many hits. This start really shows that Dickey is on top of his game because he was able to work around walks and hits today to limit the Cardinals to just two runs. With this win Dickey becomes the first pitcher to 18 wins this season.
Offensively the Mets really picked up the scoring total today. Josh Thole drove in the first run for the Mets on a RBI single. The Mets then received another run on a bases loaded walk that bought home Lucas Duda. At the time the Mets led 2-0, but Adam Wainwright homered in the 3rd inning that bought the Cardinals a run closer. But that would matter later in this game as Ike Davis drove in three runs on a three-run homerun in the fifth inning. Davis continues to hit homeruns with men on base. Today he really showed his power as he clubbed his 19th road homerun of the season.
This was a very nice game for the Mets who needed a win. Today they were able to avoid the sweep and were able to leave St. Louis with some momentum. The Mets will have the day off tomorrow before starting a three game series against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field on Friday.
