Knicks Season Preview: Iman Shumpert

Last season Iman Shumpert emerged as a very nice fit with this Knicks team. His defensive abilities alone made him important to this team. Averaging 9.5 points and 1.7 steals, Shumpert really played hard the entire game. His ability to play the passing lanes really gave the Knicks that added defensive pressure in the backcourt that they were searching for.

Shumpert worked on his shot mid-way through the season and that change really helped get his shot back on track. Shumpert didn’t have the percentages to support that change, but his shot was more fluid. Last season when Shumpert tore his ACL in the playoffs, the Knicks really missed his defensive presence. Last season was a tough way to end, but Shumpert will bounce back and be a key member of the Knicks.

What to Expect

Shumpert is working hard to get himself back on the court. Don’t expect Shumpert back anytime soon, but with his work ethic, who knows. His role on the team is still in question. Is he a starter or a solid off the bench threat? Right now Shumpert will likely come off the bench this season until he can prove that he can score with the starters. Shumpert plays with passion and loves to play defense, so with that said he could start down the road once he is 100% back from his injury.

Numbers wise Shumpert should give about the same numbers he had last season. When he comes back the Knicks will be greatly improved and a bigger threat on the defensive end.
