Going for win number 19 tonight, R.A. Dickey took the mound hoping to get his team a win. But tonight Dickey would lose his third home game to the Washington Nationals.
Lasting seven innings allowing three runs on eight hits Dickey really didn’t have his best knuckleball tonight. Dickey didn’t have solid movement on his knuckleball tonight. That caused his pitches to be flat and the Nationals took advantage.
The Mets offense was able to get two runs and the lead for Dickey, but he was unable to hold off the Nationals. Frank Francisco would allow two runs in the ninth inning to push the Nationals up 5-2. Scott Hairston did hit his 17th homerun of the season in the ninth inning.
Ruben Tejada went 3 for 4 with three singles in this game. Tejada was the only Met to have multiple hits in this game.
The Mets have really been bad at home since the all-star break. Now 4-20 since the all-star break, home hasn’t been to kind to the Mets at all. This series will conclude tomorrow as the Mets look to avoid the sweep. This game was a very tough break for Dickey, but he will have about four more starts to try to make a case for the Cy Young award.
