The New York Knicks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers tonight 110-88.
The energy level was low to start the game for the Knicks, but mid-way through the first they were able to get back into the game. The defense tonight was the story for the Knicks tonight. The entire night the Knicks defenders stuck to the ball handler and forced the Sixers to take contested shots. This win tonight was very impressive as the Knicks held their opponent under 90 points for the third time this season.
There were many solid individual games tonight for the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. Raymond Felton scored 16 points and dished out 8 assists. Ronnie Brewer scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Those three were huge in this game. All had solid all around games and that in itself made them deadly tonight.
The Knicks had seven players in double figures tonight. The scoring was easy because the ball kept moving. The threes were raining tonight as the Knicks hit 13 threes.
JR Smith played very well as he scored 17 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists tonight. Smith showed tonight that he can impact the game in other ways then just scoring. His approach to getting his teammates involved has made his value to the team very high. As the sixth man of the team Smith is playing very well to start the season. Tonight’s performance was definitely key in the Knicks win over the Sixers.
The performance from Rasheed Wallace was also on notice tonight. Wallace scored a season-high 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds in 13 minutes of action. Wallace also had an impact on the defensive end as he blocked two shots. Wallace looks very strong on both sides of the ball. His ability to spread the floor and get shots in the post will come into play down the road. Tonight he was very impactful with his minutes and that really helped the Knicks get the jobs done tonight.
This was a very nice win for the Knicks who are now 3-0 and are off to a very nice start. The defense in all three games has been superb. The Knicks will not play again until Friday when they play the Dallas Mavericks.
