Knicks lose in overtime to Nets 96-89

The New York Knicks lost to the Brooklyn Nets tonight in overtime. This was a very tight game throughout the entire night, but the Nets were able to get this win with excellent offensive execution. The play of the Nets in the clutch was very important in this game and they were able to go on a 9-0 run to put this game away.

The Knicks really struggled all night on playing consistent defense. The backdoor plays the Nets ran on the Knicks really displayed a weakness that hasn’t been addressed.

Playing 50 minutes tonight, Carmelo Anthony scored a team high 35 points. His shots were falling for the most part, until late in the game when it seemed Anthony got tired. Despite those minutes Anthony also grabbed 13 rebounds including 6 offensive rebounds. This season Anthony is grabbing his share of rebounds and tonight was no different.

Tyson Chandler was the secondary scorer for the Knicks tonight as he scored 28 points. Chandler was huge in getting to the basket and making easy shots. The Knicks really benefited from the pick and roll with Chandler, but for some reason went away with it late in the game. Chandler was very active on the boards as well, grabbing 10 rebounds with 7 of those rebounds on the offensive glass.

Anthony and Chandler were the only two double figure scorers for the Knicks. That was why they lost the game. If the other guys can’t score, this team is in trouble.

On the injury front, the Knicks were without Jason Kidd for this game as he is having lower back spasms. Kidd would have been a huge advantage for the Knicks, but his absence wasn’t the reason they lost. Also Ronnie Brewer left tonight’s game with a dislocated finger. The team hasn’t released any more information about him, but if any information is handed out it will be posted at a later time.

Tonight the Knicks were bad in late game execution and that resulted in them losing this game. Another key area for the Knicks was their three point shooting. Tonight they made only six threes on 28% shooting. When this team isn’t hitting shots they are a struggling team offensively. Tonight the Nets out hustled them and played harder then them. This game is definitely a learning experience for the Knicks and they shouldn’t overreact over this loss.

The Knicks will play the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night as they look to get back to winning basketball. That game will not be easy, but the Knicks have to come ready to play. Tonight the Knicks lost 96-89 in overtime to the Brooklyn Nets.
