Knicks beat Lakers 116-107, but lose Melo to injury

Tonight the New York Knicks earned their 17th win of the season, as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 116-107.

In this win tonight the Knicks did lose Carmelo Anthony to injury. Anthony sprained his left ankle after being fouled by Dwight Howard while driving to the basket. Anthony landed awkwardly on his left leg and left walking with a very noticeable limp.

Anthony did have a great game despite the injury. Anthony started 8 of 9 from the field in the first quarter and never looked back. His 30 points really made a difference in this game and his great start to the game really got the team off to a nice start. Anthony played just 22 minutes tonight and left in the middle of a great performance. Hopefully this injury isn’t serious and Anthony can be ready for Saturdays game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With Anthony begin injured in the 3rd quarter, the Knicks needed the rest of the team to step up. They did that and the team was able to win. JR Smith and Tyson Chandler both scored 18 points tonight. Smith really made some very nice shots to keep the Knicks afloat tonight. The Lakers made a very nice run towards the end of the game, but Smith was able to hit shots to give them a nice lead to finish off the Lakers.

Raymond Felton struggled with his shot in this game, but did manage to score 19 points. Felton also had 8 assists.

Overall the Knicks really handled their business tonight. They controlled the game early and that was enough to get the win. This team continues to play with energy and excellent team work. They are opening eyes with every win and tonight they showed yet again, they are a much different team this season.

The Knicks have to be concerned with Anthony, but tonight were able to close the game out despite not having him. This was the 9th win at Madison Square Garden this season. They are winning at home and that is really influencing a very successful season, thus far. The Knicks will continue their six game home stand against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night.
