Tonight was a very MVP-like performance by Carmelo Anthony. Not just his scoring, but his all around effort was very important in this Knicks win. Scoring 40 points for the third time this season, Anthony led the Knicks offensively. His 6 assists were a season high and that really was the difference in this performance tonight. He was a team leader who looked to get his teammates involved tonight.
Anthony shot 48% from the field and also made 8 of 9 free throws. His numbers were solid tonight and he really put his effort into tonight’s game. He did play 45 minutes, but that was needed tonight.
As a team tonight the Knicks were able to get five players in double figures. One of course was JR Smith who scored 18 points off the bench tonight. Smith played very solid
tonight and he really used his quickness at times to create scoring opportunities. Smith continues to play at a high level and tonight really was a nice contributor to the Knicks success.
Jason Kidd really had a spectacular game as he scored 15 points. But his all around game was in full effect. Kidd amassed 8 rebounds and 7 assists tonight. Those numbers alone deserve great praise, but with his scoring coming into play Kidd really played great tonight. This was a very normal game for Kidd, but in a game that the Knicks struggled, he played a large role in this win.
In his third game since making his season debut, Amare Stoudemire scored a season high 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Stoudemire made some nice moves and continues to show positive signs in his game. Stoudemire missed some close shots, but over time those shots will start to fall. Overall Stoudemire continues to improve on both ends of the floor and continues to play aggressively.
Tyson Chandler scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in tonight’s win. Chandler had some easy dunks and really used his size to get to the basket. Marcus Camby also found Chandler on two of his baskets with excellent lobs. Camby had a season high 4 assists tonight and really was a nice spark in a time the Knicks needed some offense.
This was a very tough game for the Knicks tonight. The Magic led by 12 points at one point in this game and controlled this game for the most part, but down the stretch couldn’t get scores when they needed them.
The Knicks will play their division rival Boston Celtics on Monday night, looking to get another win. This was a game the Knicks needed to win and they were able to do that tonight.
