Carmelo Anthony put on a show tonight! Anthony would tie the Knicks record for three-pointers with nine. His shot was fluid the entire night and he knew it. His 54% from the field and 75% from long range really was the difference for the Knicks. His 42 points gave him his fourth 40 point performance of the season, the most in the league.
The Knicks and Hawks battled tonight, to say the least. There were 22 lead changes and 14 ties tonight showing that for the most part this game was close throughout. The Knicks did have an 11 point lead, but the Hawks were able to comeback into this game with excellent shooting.
DeShawn Stevenson came off the bench to score 15 points, including four three-pointers. He was a major influence in the Hawks keeping this game close. He was left open and made the Knicks pay.
Overall the Hawks were solid tonight, but some late turnovers by Josh Smith really destroyed any chances of them winning this game.
For the Knicks Amare Stoudemire continued to play at a high level as he scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds tonight. Stoudemire was energetic and really played a physical game. His ability to provide offense off the bench makes the Knicks a much better team. Tonight his ability to get to the rim was huge. He drew foul after foul as he was able to convert on 6 of 8 free throws. His game tonight was very impressive and continues to provide off the bench.
JR Smith was able to get on track in this game and really was an excellent force off the bench. Smith scored 18 points in 36 minutes of action tonight. He really came up huge for the Knicks when they needed scorer early in the fourth quarter. Tonight Smith was able to get mid range jumpers to fall and that was all he need to get started. The Knicks need Smith every night especially in big games.
Raymond Felton played very solid in his second game since returning from injury yesterday. Felton was a play maker as he was able to rack up 10 assist. He really made some spectacular passes and was able to get the offense rolling. Felton also scored 12 points.
Tonight was a very nice night for the Knicks who were able to get a very big win. The Knicks will play again on Wednesday night when they take on the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden.
