Wizards defeat Knicks 106-96

With a final score of 106-96, the Washington Wizards stunned the New York Knicks tonight.

Despite 31 points from Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks really couldn’t play consistent defense in this game. They allowed the Wizards to shoot 55% from behind the three-point arc. That shooting really was the difference in this game.

Trevor Ariza really stuck it to his old team in this game. Ariza scored 20 points off the bench, including five three-pointers. This was a nice performance by Ariza, who has struggled this season.

Amare Stoudemire gave the Knicks another positive effort tonight as he scored 19 points off the bench. Stoudemire used excellent post moves including some nice hook shots. His low post game really has been a nice addition to his game. Also he really showed signs of explosiveness on some of his dunks. He provided nice inside scoring for the team and was a nice force off the bench.

Defensively, the Knicks didn’t have any energy or toughness. Countless times the Wizards were able to get into the paint with ease and that would lead to easy baskets. That lack of defensive intensity led to struggles guarding the three. They allowed the Wizards to get easy open shots and that really was painful to see. This effort tonight really was disappointing.

The Knicks also had slow starts in the first, third, and fourth quarters of tonight’s game. Those slow starts really allowed the Wizards to take control of this game and gain momentum. Overall the Wizards took advantage of the Knicks mistakes and won the game because of that.

Tyson Chandler grabbed 13 rebounds, ending his streak at three games of 20 rebounds. Chandler struggled on the defensive end having to guard Nene and Emeka Okafor. Both guys really had their moments in this game and came up huge for the Wizards.

For the Knicks, they will play again on Friday night, when they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. This loss tonight snapped the Knicks five game winning streak.
