Anthony goes down, but Knicks still defeat Cavaliers 102-97

In a game in which the Knicks trailed by 22 points, they were able to comeback and win 102-97 over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Carmelo Anthony was injured in the second quarter after falling and didn’t return. Anthony scored 6 points before departing with a right knee injury.

With Anthony out, the Knicks relied on Amare Stoudemire to get them back into the game. Stoudemire scored 22 points off the bench and played 31 minutes tonight. His aggressiveness was key in this win because he did a nice job in asserting himself on the offensive end. Stoudemire also had a block and forced a jump ball in the third quarter. Efficiency was also key for Stoudemire, as he connected on 10 of 15 shots. He really has played well. Tonight was the night he took over when the team needed him.

Scoring 70 points in this game, the bench was the real difference in the game. JR Smith scored 18 points with Steve Novak scoring 15. Those two really were important tonight and got the job done. This was a nice all around team win without Carmelo Anthony. This team played with an attacking mindset and took it to the Cavaliers in the second half.

Overall this was an excellent team win. The early part of the game was atrocious, but they hung in there and won the game. After their loss to the Miami Heat yesterday, the Knicks really needed a win tonight. It wasn’t pretty, but they were able to still win the game.

This win also snapped a 10 game losing streak in Cleveland for the Knicks. The last win came on November 29, 2006. Knicks will face the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night hoping to continue winning.
