Tonight the New York Knicks defeated the Memphis Grizzlies for their sixth consecutive win. This win wasn’t easy, but the Knicks were able to get the job done.
Despite leading by 30 points, the Knicks allowed the Grizzlies back into the game with terrible fouls and lack luster defense. But in the end they were able to get a clutch three pointer from Jason Kidd along with a foul to seal the win.
JR Smith was unstoppable tonight as he scored
35 points in what was his second straight game of 30 or more points. Smith continued to attack the basket and that resulted in him getting 13 free throw attempts. His attempts per game really have gone up over the last few games. That change really has added another wrinkle to Smith’s game. Smith also had seven rebounds tonight in what was another great performance.
Playing 40 minutes tonight, Carmelo Anthony would put in another solid performance. Anthony scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds. His shot wasn’t the best tonight, but he would still give the Knicks a solid game to help get them another win.
The Knicks played a outstanding first half as they outscored the Grizzlies 69-41 in the first half. That was the best first half of the season by the Knicks, who would knock down 11 three-pointers. They allowed only 16 points in the second quarter and that was a result of excellent defense.
The second half the Grizzlies were able to slow the game down, as they went to the line 15 times in the third quarter. That quarter the Knicks really lost all momentum and the Grizzlies were cutting the deficit. But the Knicks would hit timely shots and hold off the Grizzlies, who would get the lead down to four points.
This was a very nice win by the Knicks, who continue to improve late in the season. Back to back wins against the Celtics and Grizzlies really shows how well the Knicks are playing. Tonight was another step in the right direction as the Knicks will start to prepare for the Bobcats on Friday night.
