In what was a must win situation, the New York Knicks were able to stop a four game losing streak with a win over the Utah Jazz.
From the start the Knicks really defended well and put forth a consistent defensive effort to win this game. Kurt Thomas was the hero tonight. He didn’t light the box score up, but instead really played a real hard game. Thomas played a season high 26 minutes tonight and really
made every minute count.
Down the stretch Thomas played outstanding defense in the post and really limited the Jazz in that area. This was a brilliant game that came at the perfect time. Originally Thomas wasn’t supposed to play with what some called a “season-ending” injury. But it turned out that Thomas has bone spurs. His role in tonight’s win was amazing and deserving of a win.
JR Smith really was a force in the second half for the Knicks. Despite scoring just two points in the first half Smith erupted for 18 points in the second half. His aggressiveness paid off as he went to the free throw line ten times. Those points would loom large in this win as he really played the perfect game in the second half.
Raymond Felton was also huge tonight. Felton scored 19 points and also racked up three steals. His play late in the game was big as he nailed clutch shots. He has struggled since coming back from his hand injury, but tonight he really played a nice game.
Chris Copeland scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 31 minutes of action tonight. His contributions were necessary for the Knicks tonight.
This was a win the Knicks needed. Despite having a struggle of a road trip the Knicks have positive signs heading home. Carmelo Anthony may play Wednesday night. His return would be a major boost for the team and at a time they really need his offense. Also, Tyson Chandler may also return despite having a neck strain that is drawing some concern. Their absences have been felt and the team really needs them back 100 percent.
Tonight the Knicks defeated the Jazz 90-83 improving to 39-26 on the season.
