The Denver Nuggets spoiled the return of Carmelo Anthony tonight. The Nuggets came out with energy and really looked to run against the Knicks. That effort early would set the tone of the game, as the Nuggets would control this game and win easily.
The bad news kept coming for the Knicks as injuries would happen to Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler. Both left with knee injuries, with Chandler’s being the real concern. Chandler’s injury is being called a “right knee contusion”, but that is before any X-rays or MRI’s are done. Carmelo Anthony walked off under his own power, but his right knee still is bothering him. Both really never had anything tonight, but these injures are just terrible for the Knicks.
Overall the only bright spot for the Knicks tonight was the play of Iman Shumpert. He would score a team high 20 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Shumpert really was able to get his outside jumper working as he connected on four three-pointers. This was a very nice sight to see simply because Shumpert has struggled since returning from his knee injury. Tonight was a nice performance by Shumpert who continues to get better as the season goes on.
This was a tough loss for the Knicks, who were never competitive in this game. The games will continue to come at the Knicks fast pace as they take on the Portland Trail Blazers tomorrow night. That game will be very important for the Knicks win, if they want to continue to hold on to their position in the Eastern Conference.
Tonight was as bad as it gets. The Knicks will have to rebound tomorrow night and hope that Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler do not miss any extended time. Their absences will hurt the Knicks and could cause them to fall in the standings. Tonight the Knicks lost 117-94 to the Nuggets to fall to 38-24 on the season.
