Carmelo Anthony is simply playing his best basketball of his Knicks career. Anthony made it three straight games of 40 plus points tonight. His shot was flawless in the second half and he exploded to help get the Knicks past the Bucks.
Early in this game the Knicks as a team struggled to hit shots, but in the second half, Anthony and Smith were the two to get the Knicks going. JR Smith scored 30 points off the bench, while also grabbing 10 rebounds. Smith really was influential in helping get the Knicks the win.
Tonight’s performance really was outstanding because the Knicks seemed as if they were going to lose this game. But in the second half something changed and their performance improved.
Defensively the Knicks shut the Bucks down in the fourth quarter. Allowing just 17 points, they really did an excellent job in closing out on shooters and grabbing rebounds. Their rebound margin was substantial as they outrebounded the Bucks 50-40.
Overall this was a memorable night. Other than the Knicks celebrating the 1973 World Champions, the half court shot by Jason Kidd was spectacular. Kidd would hit a long half court shot that sent the arena into complete joy. Kidd had five points tonight, but he also grabbed 7 rebounds. He continues to be a key person for the Knicks this season and that continued tonight.
With this win the Knicks are now one game from 50 wins on the season. They also picked up their 11th straight win tonight. This winning streak is the third longest in franchise history.
With a night of celebration the Knicks gave the fans a great game. With Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith, the Knicks really were unstoppable once they got it going. Their scoring really was too much for the Bucks tonight.
The Knicks will hope to continue streaking against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday afternoon. That game will be pivotal in the Knicks continuing their streak.
