Harvey dazzles, as Mets defeat Padres 8-4

Homeruns were a staple for the New York Mets tonight.

Lucas Duda started the party with his first homerun of the season, a two-run shot. This was a very positive sign because it came off a left-handed pitcher. Duda went two for three with a double and the homerun.

John Buck also had a homerun, his first of the season, Buck’s was also a two-run shot. Buck showed power to the opposite field with his homerun. After last season the Mets really haven’t had a power pitcher, Buck really has power to both sides of the park. Tonight he showed his power to the right side of the field.

Closing out the homerun party was Ike Davis. His two-run homerun was impressive as the baseball went to the Shea Bridge. Davis also hit his homerun off a left-handed pitcher.

Matt Harvey pitched arguably the best game of his career tonight. Harvey went seven strong innings allowing just one hit on 10 strikeouts. Harvey really used his fastball well tonight and was able to control that pitch to get through the outing. His success, even last season, was his fastball. Tonight that continued in what was another great pitching performance.

The Mets really showed power tonight with the wind blowing out. The wind really came into play on John Buck’s homerun, but the other two were gone regardless of the wind.

Overall tonight’s win was another impressive one by the Mets. They will close out the series tomorrow afternoon against the Padres. That game Dillon Gee will start for the Mets, looking to start his season off well.
