With the two seed on the line, the New York Knicks defeated the Indiana Pacers to earn themselves that spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Led by Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks played a strong defensive game and really wanted this win. Anthony, who scored 25 points, didn’t shoot great in this game, but did lead the team today. His shot was tested by great Pacers defense, but he still was able to impact the game.
Off the bench Chris Copeland played really well. His scoring really has been there for the Knicks with his increase in minutes. Today Copeland would score 20 points in 34 minutes. In the playoffs Copeland really should see some minutes with his better play on the defensive end.
The Knicks had five double digit scorers today. That was the real plus. Also their play on the defensive end. They had 11 steals and really looked to play the passing lanes. Leading the steal category was Jason Kidd, who had four steals.
JR Smith scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds tonight. Smith was strong inside and took it to the basket for most of his shots. He played 29 minutes and could possibly sit one of the last two games.
Overall today’s performance was great against another playoff team. They played great defense and really moved the ball on offense. This was an important win and now the Knicks can rest some of their players with only two games left in the regular season.
It is also worth noting that Carmelo Anthony did suffer a left shoulder contusion, but he said he’ll be fine.
The Knicks will play the Charlotte Bobcats tomorrow night looking to close out the season strong.
