In their worst offensive game of the season, the New York Mets fell to the San Diego Padres, 2-1.
Yesterday the Mets hit three homeruns, but today struggled to avoid the strikeout. With 14 strikeouts today, the Mets struggled to get clutch hits.
Justin Turner was really the only offensive threat today as he went 3 for 4 with a double. Turner really made his presence felt, but his hits came without runners on base. That really was the downside to his hits, but overall it was nice to see.
John Buck homered in his second consecutive game as he nailed a pitch in the ninth inning. Buck really has excelled at getting a pitch to hit. He had two hits today and really has been a major upgrade over the Mets catchers in the past few seasons.
Turner and Buck were the only Mets to record hits today. That really tells the story of how tough of day it were for the Mets offense.
Dillon Gee started for the Mets and would have a tough finish to his outing. Gee would last 6.1 innings allowing three hits on one run. Gee struggled with his command late in his outing, but overall did a nice job in keeping the team in the game.
Jeurys Familia came into the game in the eighth inning and allowed a hit, a walk, and a run in just a brief appearance. Familia struggled with his command and never really commanded his pitches. He threw 11 pitches and 4 of those were strikes.
The Mets will take on the Miami Marlins tomorrow night at Citi Field, looking to get some division wins started. Today was tough, but the team will bounce back.
