Knicks defeat Celtics 88-80; Will face Pacers Sunday

The New York Knicks defeated the Boston Celtics 88-80. This win gives the Knicks a 4-2 series win, their first playoff series win since 2000.

This wasn’t an easy game for the Knicks. At one point the Knicks led by 26 points, but would allow the Celtics to cut the lead down to single digits. The Knicks struggled to score and prevent turnovers. The Celtics outscored the Knicks 33-21 in the fourth quarter. This one almost slipped away, but the Knicks were able to pull out the win.

The hero tonight was Iman Shumpert. His play was huge as he made shots and played stifling defense. Shumpert scored 17 points including three three-pointers. His shot was fluid in the second half and he knew it. Shumpert taunted the Celtics after made baskets and really made great plays for the team.

Despite shooting 7 for 23 from the field, Carmelo Anthony made some big plays late in this game. Anthony scored 21 points including a series high five assists. His performance wasn’t great, but he was able to make the best of his opportunities late and helped get the team a win.

Raymond Felton was great tonight. Felton scored 11 points and dished out 7 assists. He really ran the offense throughout the game. During the Knicks struggles, Felton didn’t touch the ball much. He made some careless passes that resulted in the Celtics making the game closer. But in the end Felton still had a great game and was able to make plays in the end.

Overall the Knicks will take this win, but the way the Celtics came back was a cause for concern. The ball moved much better in this game resulting in five double digit scorers. This was a much better collective game. No single player won this game. Tonight the Knicks won as a team and move on as a team. They will face the Indiana Pacers on Sunday afternoon looking to start the series off right.
