The New York Knicks and Washington Wizards faced off tonight in Baltimore, Maryland. This game marked the return of Carmelo Anthony to the Baltimore area, after Anthony grew up there some years ago. The Knicks held the lead most of the night and would get by the Wizards despite some cold shooting at times.
Led by Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks were able to build a solid lead of 16 points in this game and would never look back. Anthony scored a team high 22 points in 29 minutes. His shot was up and down, but like every game Anthony was able to get into a groove. The team needs Anthony every night and tonight he played a solid game on both ends of the floor.
The surprise of the preseason has to be Toure Murry. His play on both ends, especially on the defense, has been spectacular. Tonight Murry racked up a couple of steals and scored 14 points. The Knicks need a young athletic point guard and Murry brings that. Tonight his play was solid and really made for a nice game. Overall the Knicks will make the final decision, but a guy like Murry they cannot just let go.
The Wizards had a great game from second year pro Bradley Beal. His 21 points were a team high. He continues to develop into a nice player and tonight showed that he can play inside and out.
John Wall scored 14 points and dished out 8 assists tonight. Wall made some jump shots tonight, something he has struggled with. That area of his game will make him an all-star. The Wizards have a solid young back court, who can be one of the best in the league if they continue to improve.
Some bad news on the Knicks front as Iman Shumpert and Pablo Prigioni were both injured tonight. Shumpert sprained his right elbow, while Prigioni sprained his left elbow. Both never returned to the game, but did sit on the bench. Their status going forward is unknown, but the injuries didn’t seem to be serious.
Metta World Peace, Kenyon Martin, Amare Stoudemire, JR Smith, and Jeremy Tyler were all absent for the game tonight. World Peace did sprain his ankle in practice, but the team doesn’t think it’s serious.
Tim Hardaway Jr. and Beno Udrih both had strong games off the bench. Both were key in the Knicks winning this game tonight. Hardaway Jr. scored 14 points while Udrih scored 12 points. Hardaway Jr. shot the ball really well tonight as he connected on three three-pointers.
Tonight both teams played a very well played game, but the Knicks were able to pull the 98-89 win.
