Carmelo Anthony tells The New York Observer:
“I want to be a free agent,” Anthony tells me, as our cigars burn close to the nub. “I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career.
It’s like you have an evaluation period, you know. It’s like if I’m in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience.”
My take is this. Carmelo Anthony is not leaving New York. First off he wanted to be here and truly wants to be here. New York is his home. Secondly, the Knicks have done everything possible to make the team better. This year is possibly the best team that Anthony has had with the Knicks and each season they have improved the roster. Lastly with the money the Knicks will offer Anthony it wouldn’t be in his best interest to walk away.
This isn’t a big deal Knicks fans, he’s going nowhere.
