The Miami Heat started a successful defense of their NBA Title tonight against the Chicago Bulls. From the start the Heat really had this game as they went into halftime with a 54-33 lead. Despite the Bulls coming back within eight points late in the fourth quarter, the Heat would hold the lead and hold off the Bulls to earn the 107-95 win.
The Heat had a great game from LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Both were key in this win. James scored 17 while Bosh scored 16 points. Additionally, the Heat bench came through as Shane Battier added 14 points, while Ray Allen and Norris Cole scored 11 points each. Overall it was a very successful night for the Heat, who played outstanding defense throughout the night.
Tonight also marked the return of Derrick Rose. He did show some highlight plays, but overall really wasn’t consistent tonight. Rose will continue to get back to his old self as the season goes on. He scored 12 points in 34 minutes.
For the Bulls the bright sign tonight was the play of Carlos Boozer. His 31 points and 7 rebounds were huge in terms of the Bulls battling back into this game. Boozer really did a nice job playing inside tonight as he went 13-for-18 from the field. The Bulls will take Boozer playing at this level and tonight he did a really nice job to contribute for the team.
This game didn’t show which team is better, only time will tell. The Heat really shot the ball well tonight and also moved the ball as a team. Racking up 26 assists and 11 three-pointers, the Heat controlled this game. Their defense also made life tough on the Bulls.
The final score didn’t show how dominate the Heat were, but they were. They also had a few offensive explosions tonight which helped bring about the big margin. The defending champions will have a tough task at winning another championship, but tonight showed that they are still the best team in basketball.
The Heat will face the Philadelphia 76ers tomorrow while the Bulls will play the Knicks on Thursday night.
