The New York Knicks and Boston Celtics played a preseason game in Providence Rhode Island tonight. This was the first preseason game for the Knicks and the Celtics second. The Knicks played solid for most of the night as they grew a 23 point lead. But the Celtics were able to take a one point lead late in this game. Hardaway Jr would hit a clutch shot that would ultimately get the Knicks the win.![]()
The story of this game was the stellar play of Iman Shumpert. His shot and energy level were major influences on the team. Shooting seven for seven from the field including three for three from long range, Shumpert was a very nice focal point of offense. The Knicks are looking for big things from Shumpert, who starts the season healthy and ready to play. He didn’t start tonight, but played 24 minutes off the bench. His play will be important all season and tonight showed that he could make an impact on the offensive side of the ball.
Tim Hardaway Jr also made an impact tonight as he scored 16 points off the bench. Hardaway Jr. hit the go ahead basket late in the fourth quarter giving the Knicks a one point lead they wouldn’t lose. His shot was fluid and he looks like a solid pick-up for the Knicks.
Andrea Bargnani played a very strong game in his Knicks debut. He showed certain things he can do to help the team not only on the offensive side, but the defensive side as well. He scored 12 points in 18 minutes of action.
The Celtics had a great game from Chris Babb who scored 12 points in eight minutes of action. Babb was very important in leading the Celtics back into the game. He looked very strong and will likely see more minutes in the Celtics next preseason game.
The Knicks improve to 1-0 on the preseason as the Celtics fall to 0-2. The Knicks will play the Toronto Raptors Friday night in what would be the second game of the preseason. Overall tonight was a fun game. Watching all the new Knicks contribute to the team and they all looked solid. As the preseason goes on it will be important to see what the rotation will look like.
