Anthony leads Knicks past Hawks

The New York Knicks were able to get back on track tonight as they defeated the Atlanta Hawks 111-106.

Led by Carmelo Anthony’s 35 points, the Knicks really looked much better tonight. They were able to move the ball on offense and got key baskets to extend their lead. Anthony in particular was unstoppable at times as he was able to impose his will. His shot was much more fluid tonight as he shot 59% from the field.

This was a very important win for the Knicks, who have struggled this entire season. Tonight they were able to force turnovers which led to easy offensive opportunities.

The Hawks continued to fight despite being down late in the game, but would fall short. Lou Williams came off the bench and scored 27 points. Williams really is a solid player off the bench. Last season he was playing well before he tore his ACL, but this season he is getting back into form and becoming a threat off the bench.

Paul Millsap was strong for the Hawks early on and would finish with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Millsap was dominate in getting to the basket which led to quick scores.

The Knicks on the other hand benefited from great point guard play by Pablo Prigioni. He racked up six assists and four steals including 11 points. This game was really won because of his effort. His minutes are high, but at this point the Knicks have no other option in playing him for long durations. His play really helped Andrea Bargnani score. Bargnani scored 23 points and was hitting shots with much better consistency tonight. A lot of that came from the great passes Prigioni gave to put Bargnani in position to score.

This was an important win for the Knicks who now are back on the winning trail.

Tim Hardaway Jr scored 13 points in 15 minutes of action tonight. Amare Stoudemire scored nine points in 19 minutes. Stoudemire was huge early in this game as he gave the team momentum with his excellent post moves.

The defense was better for the Knicks, while the Hawks struggled to protect the ball.

The Knicks will play again on Monday when they face the Washington Wizards. The Hawks will play the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday as well looking to get back on track.
