Grizzlies stop Knicks late rally; Win 95-87

The Knicks looked to continue winning today as they faced the Memphis Grizzlies, losers of five straight games.

This game was all but over as the Grizzlies were up by 19 points, but the Knicks would do everything to get back into this game. The Knicks were able to get within four points, but that was it. They fell behind too far and couldn’t make the comeback. The Grizzlies would win 95-87 to snap their five game losing streak.

Zach Randolph was a beast inside for the Grizzlies and showed why he is a very talented player. Randolph uses his body well allowing him to dictate where he wants to go on the offensive end. Today he really did that nicely and was able to get easy scores. Randolph would score 25 points to lead the Grizzlies including a team high 14 rebounds. He doesn’t have the size or speed, but he gets the job done and is consistent with scoring and grabbing rebounds. Today he did that and it led to the Grizzlies winning.

The Grizzlies did an excellent job in getting rebounds. They would outrebound the Knicks 56-29 leading to points for them. That was a huge rebounding margin and one that made it hard for the Knicks today. Second chance points were also big as the Grizzlies scored 19 second chance points to the Knicks five. The Grizzlies really bought the effort today which led to easy opportunities the Grizzlies capitalized on.

For the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony was dominate yet again as he scored 30 points. He really was a source of offense today as he connected on 11 field goals. He was able to get the ball squared up to the basket making for easier scoring opportunities. Anthony has played well all season and continues to be the only consistent player for the Knicks. His effort is there, but his teammates aren’t. This is a very tough situation for Anthony as his team continues to play inconsistent basketball. But he has to stay positive and hope his team can catch on.

Off the bench JR Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr both scored 16 points each. They came in and really helped the team with energy early on, but both struggled in the second half.

This was a very tough game for the Knicks to lose. They continue to get beat on their home floor and show no resolve. They have to get back to playing winning basketball, which hasn’t been seen this season.

The Knicks will next play on Monday night when they play the Orlando Magic. The Grizzlies will play the Utah Jazz on Monday night as well.

The Knicks struggled yet again. But the thing that continues to haunt them is their lack of perimeter defense. Today the guards couldn’t defend which led opportunities inside in which the Knicks couldn’t stop.
