The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets faced off for the first time this season. Both teams have struggled this season and tonight one team would walk away with a win. That team was the New York Knicks.
From the start the Knicks really came out more energized and looked for each other rather then the standard one-on-one play. That started with the play of Carmelo Anthony. He was able to find his teammates and that really jumpstarted the teams offense. Anthony went on to hand out six assists tonight in what was a really nice passing game for him. He also did his share of scoring as well as he scored 19 points. This was one of the better games for him because he did more then just scoring he was able to impact the game in other areas.
Someone that really stepped up tonight was Iman Shumpert. He was able to find his outside shot as he nailed five three-pointers. Those shots seemed to energize and also grow the Knicks lead. He really did a solid job tonight for the first time in awhile.
For the Nets they really struggled in getting into their offense. Time and time again they seemed stagnant and looked slow in getting into any kind of offense. Their stagnation limited them to just 11 assists tonight. They also seemed to lack any kind of spirit and look like a team that has no leader.
They did get a nice game from Brook Lopez who scored 24 points in 34 minutes. He was the only real positive for the Nets as he really made his mark early. At times Lopez really was able to score at will, but the Nets went away from him. He should have had more opportunities tonight because of his dominance inside. His play has been strong this season and should stay that way for the season.
Overall tonight was a big win for the Knicks who snapped their nine game losing streak. They showed more energy and possessed a more team game. They have to stay that way if they want to keep winning games.
This was just one game, but a win goes a long way when losing is constant.
The Knicks will now prepare for their matchup against the Orlando Magic tomorrow night. The Nets on the other hand will play the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday looking to get on track.
