The New York Knicks handled business tonight as they defeated the Boston Celtics 114-88.
From the start the Knicks ran a smooth offense that had everyone involved. The ball moved from inside and out and the ball gravitated to the open man. It was very nice to see the Knicks start to show some consistency for the third straight game.
Leading the way yet again, Carmelo Anthony was the source of offense for New York. He was able to continue his hot streak of scoring with 24 points. Anthony didn’t play in the fourth quarter, but his damage was done through the first three quarters. Anthony also added nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals. This was a very nice game for him as he continues to lead by example.
Overall the Knicks played very hard on both ends of the floor. They were able to spread the court on offense and did a great job in rotating on defense. This was a very important win for them as they try to make up ground in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Celtics really struggled in this game. Not only was their offense poor, but their defense was just as bad. They allowed the Knicks easy inside baskets and that really deflated and chance they had at this game. The scoring was at a low tonight for Boston as they shot under 39% for the game. That was a major issue for them and has been over the last few games. Jeff Green was the offensive leader for the Celtics, but even he struggled at times tonight.
The Knicks played a solid game and outworked the Celtics tonight. This stretch that they have played has been very good to see. The young guys in Cole Aldrich and Jeremy Tyler really have helped bringing energy and youthfulness to the team. Tonight both of them played really well. Tyler in particular scored 17 points and was active while on the court. His ability to run the floor, as a big, gives the Knicks something they have lacked this season. He can shoot a little and has the ability to get to the basket. Look for him to continue to see minutes, especially with the Knicks having injured big men.
Off the bench JR Smith played very well as he scored 17 points in 34 minutes. Smith has really found himself after struggling to start the season. Smith played very under control and has played that way over a good stretch of games. His play is very important for New York to compete. During this three game winning streak Smith has contributed nicely.
Tonight was a solid performance by the Knicks, but now have to focus their attention on the Cavaliers whom they face on Thursday night.
