Dirk beats buzzer, lifts Mavericks over Knicks 110-108

In what was another big test for the Knicks, New York would come up short yet again. After fighting back time after time tonight, the Mavericks would win on a Dirk Nowitzki buzzer beater as time expired. Nowitzki struggled for most of the night, but came up huge for Dallas late. Dallas would defeat New York 110-108 earning their 35th win of the season.

For Dallas, the play of Vince Cater was huge for them. He came off the bench and scored a team high 23 points. Carter torched the Knicks from distance as he connected on seven three-pointers. Carter has accepted his role on this team and has flourished this season. Tonight his effort led to the Mavericks winning.

Dallas had a very strong game out of their starting backcourt of Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon. They were two unstoppable forces that combined to score 42 points. The perimeter defense by New York was poor and Dallas took advantage. Both also combined for seven three-pointers.

This was just a very tough game for New York defensively. They constantly left Mavericks guys open on the perimeter. Early they allowed easy inside points, but as the game went on they struggled to defend the three point arc.

Carmelo Anthony just can’t win. He has played his heart out this season. Tonight he bought the effort, but it didn’t lead to a win. He scored a game-high 44 points in 41 minutes. This team hasn’t helped Anthony in terms of effort. He is really the only one bringing effort every night.

The Knicks as a whole are just not getting it done. From the coaching to the players. This season is slowly and painfully dragging on. Tonight was just the worst because they lost on a buzzer beater. They will have a tough stretch of games coming up with opponents the Heat, Warriors, and Bulls looming. This game was important, but now they have to focus on a team that had their way the last time they faced off. Tonight was just another bad loss, but they have to move on.
