The New York Knicks were able to hold on for a 93-92 win over the Philadelphia 76ers tonight. After leading by by 17 points with five minutes remaining the Knicks almost gave it away. Mike Woodson pulled his starters and the bench almost gave away the game. With some very close misses the Knicks were able to hang on.
This was a very poor shooting game for both teams tonight. The Knicks shot the ball better and that was with a very strong second half.
Leading the way for New York was Amare Stoudemire. His play during this winning streak has been amazing. He looks strong physically and he is taking advantage. Tonight Stoudemire scored 22 points and grabbed ten rebounds. This was a nice performance by Stoudemire, who continues to have a strong showing over the last couple of weeks.
Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points, but didn’t have a strong shooting night. His shot has been a struggle from three-point range as of late. Tonight he was able to knock down two three-pointers, but overall his shot wasn’t the best tonight. He had help tonight, which equaled a win. Early in the season this would have easily been a loss, but with the help of the team, they were able to win.
Michael Carter-Williams was strong tonight as he put together one of his best games of the season. Carter-Williams scored 22 points, but he also grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out nine assists. His play this season is something to marvel. He is just in his rookie campaign but plays as if he’s been around for years. He still has some areas of concern, but overall his play will continue to get better as he continues to learn the game.
The 76ers battled back in this game and really could have won if they executed better. They struggled to make plays that would get them over the hump. They looked like a team that has lost 22 straight games at times tonight. And in the end one bad play led to the Knicks winning.
Someone who really helped the Knicks offensively tonight was Pablo Prigioni. He really was able to get the offense going after some shooting woes to start the game. He had nine assists tonight and really was important to Amare Stoudemire tonight. He ran a smooth pick and pop game with Stoudemire and he made most of his chances. Those two really worked well tonight and helped get New York an important win.
The Knicks won a season high eight games tonight. They are flying high as they continue to make up ground in the standings. They have shown strong play during this streak and continue to play at a level unseen this season. New York will next play on Sunday night looking to defeat the Cavaliers.
