Pacers even series; Defeat Hawks 101-85

The Pacers bounced back nicely tonight as they defeated the Hawks 101-85 to even up the series at one win apiece. Early on the Pacers struggled to find consistency on both sides. They looked to get Roy Hibbert involved early, but that didn’t work at all. Their defense also took a hit as the Hawks spaced the floor perfectly which caused the Pacers to rotate late and allow open looks. But in the second half the Pacers changed their game plan and it worked. They were able to wear down the Hawks and were finally able to get points inside. They used a smaller lineup and they were able to guard the three-point line while also protecting the inside. The Pacers showed why they won the east tonight with an excellent showing in the second half.

It was the best Luis Scola has looked since joining the Pacers in the offseason. Scola scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in what was a very strong performance. Scola dominated as he shot 64% from the field. He may be someone who can be huge for Indiana because of his ability to both shoot from the midrange, but also score from inside. The Pacers needed a lift from some of their other players and Scola stepped up tonight.

Paul George was the leading scorer for the game as he scored 27 points. George had a fantastic game from long range as he connected on five three-pointers. With him being the best player for the Pacers, his play is really important. Tonight he gave them an excellent showing on both ends of the floor. George also contributed in the rebounding department as he grabbed ten rebounds. He also dished out six assists and racked up four steals. He had an all around performance tonight and it showed in the end.

After starting out strong the Hawks struggled in the second half. They couldn’t get any of their shots to fall, thus giving the Pacers all the chances in the world to win.

Jeff Teague, who was the hero in game one, really struggled at times tonight. The Pacers really did a great job in limiting his impact on the game. They took away lanes to the basket and they got into shooters to take away assists opportunities. Teague looked unstoppable after the last game, but tonight wasn’t his night. Look for him to be really important if Atlanta wants this series win.

This was a fantastic game by both teams. The Hawks had this game in the first half, but the Pacers were able to take the game back in the second. This is turning into a really good series with the series now going to Atlanta for games three and four. Game three will take place on Thursday in Atlanta, where the Hawks will try to win in front of their home crowd.
