The Mets have been on a great winning streak after getting off to a terrible start. They faced the Nationals to close out their three game series. The Mets sent Chris Capuano to the mound to face off against the former Met Livan Hernandez. The Mets fought hard to try to get the win, but they fell a little short. They would see their winning streak end at six games. Capuano went 5.2 innings, allowed 10 hits, and allowed 4 runs to score. He struggled at times to get the Nationals hitters out. He did get out of a bases loaded jam to keep the Mets in the game. He was the Met pitcher that started the winning streak and was the one to end as well.
Livan Hernandez pitched 8.0 innings allowing two earned runs. He did allow 7 hits, but struck out 5 batters. He pitched a very under controlled game and never allowed the Mets to get the lead.
The Mets will play the Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Mike Pelfrey will get the start after getting ill with the flu.
Game Notes:
- Jose Reyes went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Ike Davis went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He continues to swing a hot bat as his average sits at .352. He is one of the hottest hitters for the the Mets right now. He is now more relaxed and is being patient at the plate.
- Pedro Beato went two strong innings in relief in which he didn’t allow a hit, but did walk one batter. He is pitching very well for the Mets and so far has been their best relief pitcher of the season. He still hasn’t allowed an earned run over 14.0 innings of work.
