Isringhausen notches 300th save; Mets win 5-4

The New York Mets played the San Diego Padres tonight at Petco Park. The Mets were trying to snap a five game losing streak with a win tonight. This team has struggled to find success in any aspect of their game during this streak. Their offense has struggled and their pitching has also fizzled out. Tonight they needed to come out and score for Dickey and give him some much needed run support.

The Mets came out swinging the bat tonight as they jumped out to a early lead on a Lucas Duda solo homerun. Later in the inning Josh Thole hit a two-run homer to bring the Met lead to 3-0. The Mets provided Dickey with some early runs tonight and it allowed Dickey to settle in and pitch nicely. The Mets would get another run on a Josh Thole RBI single that plated Jason Pridie.

R.A. Dickey started for the Mets trying to give them a great start. Dickey would go 6.1 innings allowing three runs on eight hits. He dominated early in the game, but as the game went on Dickey started to tire. Dickey would give up a two-run homer to Will Venable to bring the Padres within a run. He gave the Mets a nice start tonight and finally was able to leave with the lead. He has to keep throwing his knuckleball in which he had working tonight. Dickey needs to carry this same effort into his next start and give the Mets more wins. Dickey lost his chance at a win tonight as the Mets coughed up the lead.

Aaron Harang started for the Padres looking to get his second consecutive win against the Mets. Harang would last just five innings after his hand was hit on a comebacker. Harang gave up four runs on eight hits with three walks. Harang struggled his entire outing and continued to give up runs. He lacked the proper control that a pitcher needs to be successful. He is really struggling despite the luck he has had this year. His ERA is 4.08 and is steadily climbing as he continues to give up runs.

Bobby Parnell gave up the Met lead on a Jesus Guzman RBI single in the 8th inning to tie the game.

In the 10th inning the Mets were able get a RBI out of a fielder’s choice by Scott Hairston. The Mets took a 5-4 lead and sent Jason Isringhausen to the mound to close the door. Isringhausen would notch the save and get his 300th save of his career. The Mets won the game and finally snapped their five game losing streak.

Game Notes:

  • Josh Thole went 3 for 3 with a homerun, two singles, and two walks.
  • Angel Pagan went 2 for 6 with two singles.
  • Lucas Duda went 3 for 4 with a homer and a two singles.
