Pre-Game: Nationals vs. Mets 1:10 p.m.

The New York Mets will play their final game against the Washington Nationals this afternoon. The Mets are in need of a win or else they will be swept and be tied with the Nationals in the standings. The Mets are struggling in all aspects of their game and their pitching has been the center of their problem. Also, David Wright has struggled in the field and is committing many errors. Wright has to get his fielding under control in order to put less pressure on the pitcher.

The Mets will send Chris Schwinden to the mound as he looks to rebound from his last start. Schwinden really struggled as he allowed five runs on eight hits through five innings against the Atlanta Braves. He has to pitch better if he wants a spot for next season. The Mets need these young pitchers to prove that they could pitch in this league and be a vital piece to their team.

Tom Milone will make his third career start and his second against the Mets. Milone started his career off right when he hit a three-run homer in his first Major League at-bat. Milone didn’t get the win, but he proved that he could have a productive outing for his club. The Mets have to get hits off Milone in order to win this game. And it is about time the Mets get the homerun going that has been lacking during this home stand.

The Mets will try to snap this four game losing streak and try to avoid a sweep by the Nationals. The Mets used today as a rest day for Jose Reyes and Ruben Tejada will start at shortstop. Also Valentino Pascucci will start at first base and Nick Evans will play right field.
