The New York Knicks faced their Atlantic Division rival in the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks were looking for their fourth straight and their second win in a row at home. Also, a win would snap the 76ers six game winning streak.
The Knicks started this game playing outstanding defense and after the first quarter they held the 76ers to just 15 first quarter points. The Knicks led by 13 points after the first quarter and were looking to get this game over quick. The second quarter was struggle offensively for both teams, but the Knicks were still able to close the half up by 10 points.
The Knicks had their moments where they would get the lead to double digits, but each time they allowed the 76ers to comeback into the game. This was especially true in the fourth quarter when they allowed the 76ers to cut a double digit deficit to four points. But somehow the Knicks were able to hold on to get the win. And with the Knicks win tonight they snapped the 76ers six game winning streak.
Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks in scoring tonight with his 27 points. Anthony played a lot of one on one, but was able to hit shots in the third quarter that resulted in the win for the Knicks. Anthony has struggled over the last two games scoring, but tonight Anthony was able to get 27 points. It wasn’t easy, but every great scorer knows how to get points.
Amare Stoudemire scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Stoudemire continues to drive to the hoop drawing fouls and getting to the line. He must continue to rebound the ball to give the Knicks a much needed edge on the boards.
The Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert played very well yet again. His 10 points and 3 assists really put the Knicks in a nice position. He struggled late in the game, but his output was much better than his four turnovers.
The Knicks continued their late game follies, but they have been able to close out the game. This was a very nice win for the Knicks proving that they can play against winning teams. They played excellent defense throughout the game and won the game because they didn’t allow the 76ers to score early in the game. The Knicks won the game 85-79 in a very close finish.
