The New York Mets will play their first road game of the season tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies. After having a very successful home stand finishing 4-2. This season has started good for the Mets, but the loss of David Wright has impacted their offense. In the last two games the Mets have only been able to score two runs in those games. Tonight they will be facing a very great pitcher in Cliff Lee who is coming off a no decision.
Tonight the Mets will start R.A. Dickey who is coming off a win against the Atlanta Braves. Tonight Dickey will face a very underperforming Phillies offense. He will need to keep relying on his knuckleball tonight to have success. If Dickey can lead the Mets tonight he will give them a very nice win on the road. This season Dickey needs to continue to take steps forward in becoming a reliable pitcher. If the Mets can give Dickey some runs tonight, they will likely win the game. The only concern for Dickey is walking batters. In the last game Dickey walked four batters, but never put himself in a heap of trouble. Tonight Dickey needs to stay under control and keep runners off base to put the Mets in position to win the game.
The biggest key for the Mets tonight is the game from Jason Bay. Over the first six games Bay has struggled to find consistency. In 23 plate appearances Bay has just 3 hits and is batting .158 from the plate. In a very hitters friendly stadium Bay needs to relax and get at least one homerun this series. In his career Bay has 23 hits in 24 games at Citizens Bank Park. Tonight the Mets need Bay to be effective in his time at the plate and in the field.
This is a very good game for the Mets to try to take because they could beat a very good pitcher and start the series off with a win. The offense has been down over the last two games, but tonight look for the Mets to be more aggressive at the plate which will produce more runs. This game will be televised on SNY at 7:05 PM. Let’s go Mets!
