Mets win first home game of the season

The New York Mets faced off against the Washington Nationals in the second game of the series. Chris Capuano faced off against Tom Gorzelanny. This was a very intense and fun game to watch. The first inning was very important for the Mets as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Carlos Beltran homerun. But in the second inning the Nationals would take the lead on a Danny Espinosa three run homerun. Then in the 4th inning Carlos Beltran would hit his second homerun of the game and of the young season.

Ian Desmond would hit a solo shot in the 5th inning to give the Nationals a one run advantage. Then in the 6th inning Ike Davis tripled to deep center, which would score David Wright and Carlos Beltran. Daniel Murphy singled to left field and scored Ike Davis to give the Mets the 6-4 lead.

Jose Reyes would knock in his first two runs of the year as he doubled to left center, which scored Scott Hairston and Brad Emaus.

The Mets would go on to win with the final score of 8-4.

Game Notes:

  • Francisco Rodriguez picked up his first save of the year as he went 1.1 innings.
  • Chris Capuano went 6.0 innings, allowing 7 hits, and struck out 8 batters. He made few mistakes and allowed the homeruns which really jeopardized his ability to get the win.
